SWS Supports All Scholars Participating in #ScholarStrike

September 8, 2020

Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS) supports all scholars who are participating in #ScholarStrike, an effort to call attention to police violence and racism from September 8 – 9, 2020. The SWS response to White Supremacy/Systemic Racism centers the research and insights of Black Feminist Scholars and condemns systemic racist actions against Black men, Black women, Black trans, Black non-binary and Black intersex people. SWS encourages scholars to act on these injustices through this #ScholarStrike that incorporates teach-ins on social and racial equality and through actions underscored in the SWS Statement on White Supremacy: An SWS Call to Action. It is our duty, as feminist sociologists and scholars, to be co-conspirators in the movement for making Black Lives Matter. Let’s use this time to send out tweets and messages in other social media platforms on anti-racism and social justice issues. The SWS Executive Office will be closed on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in support of the #ScholarStrike. Please refer to https://socwomen.org/sws-responds-to-white-supremacy-systemic-racism/ for resources to assist your participation in teach-ins on White Supremacy, Anti-Racism, and Social Justice.
